    About Sevenoaks

Sevenoaks is a commuter town in the county of Kent, in south east England, It is serviced by one of the principal commuter rail lines from central London.

It is a bustling mosaic of ancient Kentish ragstone, a market town with modern commuter estates, first built after the electrification of the railway in 1934.

Sevenoaks has its own station, of which it is justly proud. Victorian mansions were built for well-breeched City gentlemen, when the steam age came to the town in 1868.

The town boasts one of the oldest cricket grounds, The Vine, with its elegant white pavilion and, a cricketing rarity these days, a bandstand.

The long High Street and charming buildings help Sevenoaks to retain its hilltop country town image with its gabled Temple House and the Chantry. It also has a theatre, cinema and hospital. Sevenoaks administers, as centre of the local authority of that name, a region containing the most awe-inspiring historic buildings found in Britain, including Knole House, which sits in the old Deer Park, and has 365 rooms, 52 staircases and seven courtyards.
