Jacksonville is in the First Coast region of northeast Florida and is centered on the banks of the St. Johns River, about 25 miles south of the Georgia border and about 340 miles north of Miami. The Jacksonville Beaches communities are along the adjacent Atlantic coast. The city has a total area of 874.3 square miles, making Jacksonville the largest city in land area in the contiguous United States.
There are more than 500 neighborhoods within Jacksonville's vast area, and are broken up into six planning districts, each containing a number of neighborhoods and developments, with borders defined by a set of major roads and rivers that run through the city.
The city center includes the Jacksonville Landing and the Jacksonville Riverwalks. The Landing is a popular riverfront dining and shopping venue, accessible by River Taxi from the Southbank Riverwalk. Other entrainment /dining districts include 5 Points, the Theatre district and Amelia Island. Also see the San Marco area St. Augustine, the Nation’s oldest city, Ponta Vedra, Fernandina Beach, all offering their own take on dining and entertainment in waterfront settings.
