Carluke is the largest town in the Clyde Valley and sits on a plateau overlooking the River Clyde.
Carluke is in the heart of Lanarkshire's fruit-growing area and one of Carluke's biggest employers is a jam company. The town benefits from a direct rail link with Glasgow and Carluke has a leisure centre as well as a sports stadium in the shape of the John Cumming Stadium. Memorials to two of Carluke's most famous sons stand in the centre of town. One honours of the noted cartographer Major General William Roy while the other remembers Doctor Daniel Reid Rankin.
